Nov. 22, 2014
Meeting opened at 4:10pm after the Annual District Meeting with RW Bro. Alan Linkletter as Chairman. 15 brother masons from the Cumberland District stayed for the meeting.
Approval of published minutes of last meeting (Sept. 25, 2014) moved by W Bro. Jim Hannon and 2nd by MW Bro. Barry Imber. Motion carried.
Motion to allow us to deviate from the published Agenda as necessary was moved by MW Bro. Barry Imber and 2nd by RW Bro. Bill Merriam. Motion carried.
Sickness and Regrets - RW Bro. Bill Merriam reported that VW Bro. Alan Robley is in the Springhill Hospital. He needs help caring for himself so is waiting to go to some sort of nursing home. He also reported that Bro. Fred Spencer is not very well and his memory is very bad.
W Bro. Justin Simons told the lodge that RW Bro. St Peter had received some bad news. He can not undergo chemotherapy for his bladder cancer and is now waiting for word as to when the surgery will be scheduled. As well Bro. Boutlier is sick from Laurie Lodge.
FINANCIAL REPORT - RW Bro. Phil Adams reported that we now have a total of $781. All lodges have paid for 2014. Notices will be going out in January to ask the lodges for their $100 for the 2015 dues.
WEBSITE - RW Bro. Linkletter asked how many had checked the website to see the Agenda before today’s meeting. He reminded the brothers to check the website so you can keep up to date on what is happening around the district. Please do remind your lodge brothers as well.
NOTICE OF MOTION
RW Bro. Boyd moved that our CDMA fiscal year will be April 1st to March 31st. This is because the old dates did not give the treasurer long enough to have the books ready and audited before the Annual Meeting. Seconded by Bro. Gary Fisher. Motion carried.
MW Bro. Imber had no report but W Bro. Jim Hannon said that using the local radio station, CFTA, is a good way to get the word out about our fraternity. One way to do this is to be interviewed by the station. After some discussion it was decided that RW Bro. Linkletter and MW Bro. Imber will go to the interview together. W Bro. Hannon will contact the station and set up the interview. Once a date for the broadcast is set they will let the brotherhood know so we can listen. This was moved by RW Bro. Bill Merriam and Seconded by W Bro. Robert Carter. Motion carried.
In the past we had a Project Committee. At the Executive meeting we decided to divide the load and form two committees - SOCIAL and WAYS & MEANS.
Social Committee: The committee shall consist of at least three members whose primary focus will be to promote a social relationship among Masons in the Cumberland District of the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia. The committee shall plan at least one social event for the Brethren of the District during the Masonic Year.
Ways & Means Committee: The committee shall consist of at least three members whose primary focus will be to promote some type of event or
program, in support of the CDMA selected charity as needed. The committee will be charged with the leadership, of any and all such projects, and shall present a viable business plan for such projects for approval of the CDMA Executive prior to implementation of the project. Upon approval of any project the committee shall request the necessary support from the craft to ensure a successful outcome. All masons shall be encouraged to assist the committee as requested.
Bro. Saulnier has volunteered to take on the Ways and Means Committee at our last meeting. Thank-you Bro. Travis. The chairman asked for more volunteers at this meeting but none came forth. W Bro. Robert Carter said he would let his name stand for the Social Committee. Thank-you W Bro. Carter.
Brothers, please let your lodges know that we are in need of more volunteers for these committees.
DISTRICT DRAMA TEAM
RW Bro. Phil Adams reported that there are no events planned for the immediate future.
RW Bro. Linkletter said that King Edward is holding a 3rd on Dec. 13 at 1:30pm (with a pot luck following) but they are planning to do the Drama themselves. The lodges should keep in mind that anytime we can double up we should. Our lodges are small and it is great when we can get a larger group together to do things especially like the Third Degree and Drama.
The gavel is now at Alexandra Lodge and will be going to Acadia Lodge on Dec.1st.
CDMA MEETING DATES
Scheduled dates are:
Nov. 22, 2014 River Philip at 1:30pm.

The chairman read the Notice of Motion regarding suspensions that the Grand Secretary is making at the next BOGP meeting. Basically it formalizes a practice that is already being followed. ( If you are suspended in one lodge you are suspended in all.)
RW Bro. Boyd said that another Notice of Motion was on the books for the next BOGP and that was concerning the “condition of the order”.
RW Bro. Bill Merriam had a couple short comments. He was very pleased with the turn out today for the Annual Meeting. He encouraged the gathering by assuming us of how important he felt our organization was to the district fraternity.
He spoke briefly on the Interprovincial Day. He said that there were 103 masons at the meeting and that it was really heart warming to see so many of us together. The lodge was bursting at the seams!
The location and date for the next meeting:
Next meeting will be Feb. 26, 2015.
Location: Alexandra Lodge #87 in Amherst at 7:30pm.
The chairman thanked everyone for coming and closed the meeting at 4:56pm. RW Bro. Merriam moved that the meeting be closed. Seconded by MW Bro. Imber. Motion carried.
Respectfully Submitted by,
VW Bro. Michael Gaul (CDMA Secretary)
