Report on the BOARD OF GENERAL PURPOSES
Nov. 28, 2015
The Board discussed two important documents. One was the report from the Ad Hoc Committee on the Board of General Purposes. The second was the proposed job description for the Grand Secretary. These two reports are attached. I, as the elected representative for Cumberland, ask brothers to review these reports and send comments to me ASAP so I can forward them for discussion at the February meeting.
Several motions were considered:
A motion to shorten the time required to move from degree to degree and add that to the Authorized Work was defeated.
A motion to add a comment to the Authorized Work noting that all former editions are not authorized was passed. Only the edition approved by The Board of General Purposes at the May 9, 2009 meeting is the Authorized Work of the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia.
At the next BoGP meeting, several housekeeping notices of motion will be addressed pertaining to rewording of regulations.
Our DDGM had several questions regarding the decision of a Lodge to surrender their warrant. Acadia #13 had decided to do this. The procedures appear to have been followed, but, nothing is official until the Board of Jurisprudence has reviewed and approved the process. Some discussion centered around the requirement for a 75% vote. Is that 75% of the members or 75% of those who voted.
